NASA revealed a 2024 trailer detailing over 15 missions, experiments, and major events that are about to happen next year.
NASA 2024: Onward and Upward
NASA announced the following missions that will take place next year as part of its continued efforts to "break barriers, shatter limits, and make the impossible possible." One of the major events for 2024 is that American companies are expected to land payloads on the moon for the first time.
The space administration is also preparing for Artemis II and Artemis III as it some of the development and behind-the-scenes footage were shown briefly in the trailer. Associate administrator for the Exploration Systems Development Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters in Washington, Jim Free, shared how different Artemis is from other space missions before.
In addition, various missions that will help scientists measure the changes on Earth's surface are also slated for 2024. NASA emphasized the importance of analyzing the atmosphere and oceans to plan for a better future.
NASA Continues Space Revolution
Aside from payloads on the moon and Earth climate satellites, NASA also unveiled a new mission to Jupiter's moon, Europa. "We will show what is possible when we dare to reach distant cosmic shores," NASA administrator Bill Nelson shared.
Science enthusiasts and knowledge seekers can check the official 2024 calendar for launches and landings of the mission. The earlier launch schedule will be on January 8 for the Astrobotic's CLPS Flight (Peregrine Mission 1).
Meanwhile, SpaceX Crew-8 and Crew-9 are expected to launch around February and August, respectively. As for the Artemis II launch, it will be in November while the Artemis III is targeted to launch by 2025.
