'Oppenheimer' to Debut Online After Record-Breaking Achievements
"Oppenheimer" was one of the most anticipated films of 2023, alongside "Barbie" which formed the Barbenheimer phenomenon. The film earned almost $1 billion worldwide, making it one of Nolan's highest-grossing movies.
The story is a biographical thriller that explores the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer and the race to develop an atomic bomb. The film also featured the repercussions and the mental effects of Oppenheimer's success.
Earlier this week, Nolan won the Best Director of a Motion Picture for the film at the Golden Globes. In addition, Cillian Murphy also won the Best Actor award for his portrayal of Oppenheimer.
Peacock Welcomes Nolan-Directed Films Aside 'Oppenheimer'
Apart from Nolan's recent movie, Peacock also announced that other blockbuster films will also be joining the platform starting February 1. This includes "Batman Begins," "The Dark Knight," "The Dark Knight Rises," "Dunkirk," "Inception," and "Memento."
"We've been through a period where it was wonderfully reassuring for studio executives to feel that their franchise properties could go on forever and be predictably successful. But you can't deny filmgoers' desire for novelty," Nolan explained as he reflected on the massive success of "Oppenheimer."
"Oppenheimer" had its theatrical release last July 2023 and it took seven months before it hit the streaming platform. On the other half of Barbenheimer, "Barbie" was made digitally available last September.
