When Cyberpunk 2077 was first released, people were outraged as the hyped-up game turned out to be a buggy disaster. Since then, CDPR has worked on resolving the issues and the game has been what it was intended to be. With a sequel in development, the studio's head said it might consider adding multiplayer.
Cyberpunk Multiplayer
The sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 is still in the early stages of development. Codenamed Project Orion, there's not much to know about the upcoming game yet other than the fact that it has been confirmed. That, and the possibility of a multiplayer mode.
CD Projekt Red is reportedly hiring more staff for the multiple projects it is working on, and with that, Co-CEO Michal Nowakowski said they are "considering" adding multiplayer to the Cyberpunk's sequel, as per IGN, which could be an exciting new feature for the game.
CDPR head Adam Badowski said the company is already expecting to have around eight people working on the sequel by the end of the year. Unfortunately, both decide not to disclose any more details other than the possibility of a multiplayer.
Hopefully, things go better than the last release. Anyone who follows the release of video game titles knows that CD Projekt Red fumbled the release of the first Cyberpunk game, with it being so bad that others were not able to progress with the main story.
The studio even intended to add multiplayer mode to the first game. With the buggy launch, all resources went to fixing the game instead of adding to it. Of course, they gave the title an overhaul in 2023 with the 2.0 and 2.1 update, but they never got around to the multiplayer feature.
CDPR also stated that 2.1 was the last update the studio worked on, which means that from there on out, only minor bug fixes would be done and that nothing else would be added to the story or the gameplay itself.
Updates on Project Orion
There's not much known about the next Cyberpunk project, but we're happy to know that it actually is happening and that it is already in the early stages of development. All that fans are hoping for is that CDPR will not repeat its mistakes from the first launch.
Specifically, Badowski said that the game was still in the "conceptual design" phase, but that was back in October 2023, so there may already be more progress than we know. It's also comforting to who's working on the project.
As reported by Kotaku, Project Orion will be developed by "veterans who were responsible for fine-tuning" both the base game and the Phantom Liberty DLC. As we know, those were the stages of Cyberpunk where the game gets redeemed.
The sequel will be developed in several locations such as teams from Vancouver, Boston, and Poland. It might be a while before we see the sequel. CDPR is putting more of its resources for the next Witcher game, but the studio is also working on both at the same time.
