The Apple Vision Pro is finally out and it is cozily sitting at the price of $3,500.
Apple boasts its new product as an all-around gadget to herald a more streamlined augmented reality thanks to its "spatial computing" capabilities.
For Apple, that is enough to put the glorified VR headset at least six times more expensive than its competition.
However, to assess its price worth would require looking at the product beyond comparing it to a similar product and test if it will hold true to the flow of time.
Apple Vision Pro is Catered to Apple Fans
One thing to make clear first is that the Apple Vision Pro, unlike other VR and AR headsets, is primarily catered to Apple enthusiasts.
The price tag already confirms that. Moreso than its features, people would be buying it because it is made by Apple and is endorsed to work with other Apple products.
It means only the most dedicated Apple fan would likely buy the product over similar products, while VR hobbyists would think twice before purchasing one.
Apple Vision Pro is Limited by Its Design
There is no denying that the Vision Pro's display power is a mile above its competitors but lags behind in other features.
The display capability can hold the test of time for several years but the other functions, such as hand and eye tracking or accessibility, would be outpaced in just a year or two.
It did not help that the product launched with limited compatibility to other apps usually accessible in other headsets.
This means that Apple would need to overhaul the design of their headset again and probably release a "better" version of the product sooner than expected.
Apple Products as an Investment
If there is one thing good about Apple products is that they are good business investments.
Apple exclusives are a great way to pull customers, primarily businesses, into their products.
It helps that Apple has partnered with Victoria VR to bring the first crypto-focused Web3 Metaverse on the VR headsets.
This will give the Apple Vision Pro a leap forward to the idealized Metaverse future that other companies are still trying to figure out how to integrate.
However, Sony is also developing a similar product and is set to release in the following years. Probably at a cheaper price.
