You can say that the release of the Apple Vision Pro has been successful, based on the trend it has set across social media platforms. It's still missing some mainstream apps that might be dealbreakers for prospective buyers, but TikTok is no longer one of them.
TikTok Comes to the Apple Vision Pro
Apple Vision Pro owners are still waiting for other native apps to be developed for the AR/VR headset, but one of the most used apps has already arrived. Starting now, TikTok will have a dedicated app eliminating the need to watch videos via Safari.
Like many other apps that were created specifically for the headset, TikTok comes with new features that will utilize the features available of the Apple Vision Pro. For instance, the like button and navigation bar are no longer situated at the side of the video, as per Engadget.
Users can still toggle that function, based on the screenshot provided by TikTok, just in case they want the interface they are used to with the standard app. It will also be easier to look through several sections of the app at once.
When viewing comments, it usually takes over most of the screen on smartphones and tablets. On the Apple Vision Pro, the comments will appear on the right side of the video, making use of the headset's landscape format.
The same goes for viewing the profile of the person who posted a video. Other content published by the user will also appear alongside the video you are currently watching, allowing you to browse other content while one plays on the left side.
Since the dedicated TikTok app also works on the Shared Space feature, it allows users to have it open while attending to other tasks. It will remain pinned on where it is assigned so users can come back to it anytime they want, given that they stay in the same room.
Right now, the app is only convenient for viewers on the app. So far, TikTok has not developed an interface that's creator-friendly. However, that might come as another feature in the future, where users will be able to use the Vision Pro's camera to create content.
Is It a Significant Addition?
Any app is a good addition as it will appeal to the user base of the platform, but that's not to say that it's significant. People usually decide on the overall availability of the apps they use, and Apple Vision Pro is yet to have native apps for both YouTube and Netflix.
The good news is that YouTube spokesperson Jessica Gibby says that a Vision Pro app is on their roadmap. As for Netflix, Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters expressed that they are careful about "investing in places that are not really yielding a return," as mentioned in The Verge.
New apps for the headset might be enough to encourage new buyers for the product, especially since a lot of people are returning their Vision Pro headsets after claiming that they have suffered from headaches and neck strain after prolonged use.
