'Oppenheimer' Surpasses 'The Super Mario Bros. Movie' Peacock Record

Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer" easily dethroned "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" during its groundbreaking debut weekend on Peacock.

The film quickly emerged as the most-viewed Pay 1 movie in the history of the streaming service.

'Oppenheimer' Celebrates Warm Welcome on Peacock

The streaming debut of "Oppenheimer" was one of the most awaited events on Peacock. The film which was originally released in theaters in 2023 had accumulated almost $1 billion worldwide.

The film had its premiere on Peacock from February 16 to February 19 and quickly became the platform's best-performing title upon its launch.

Apart from "Oppenheimer," Peacock also welcomed the release of Nolan's other blockbuster films. This includes "Batman Begins," "The Dark Knight," "The Dark Knight Rises," "Dunkirk," "Inception," and "Memento."

'Oppenheimer' Continues Win Streak for Accolades

Last month, Nolan won the Best Director of a Motion Picture, while Cillian Murphy bagged the Best Actor award at the Golden Globes. Robert Downey Jr. also got an award as Best Supporting Actor and Ludwig Göransson for Best Original Score.

Recently, Murphy was awarded the BAFTA and is expected to win at this year's Oscars. Downey is also continuing his win streak as the supporting actor.

"We've been through a period where it was wonderfully reassuring for studio executives to feel that their franchise properties could go on forever and be predictably successful. But you can't deny filmgoers' desire for novelty," Nolan previously shared on the continuous success of "Oppenheimer."
