eBay is releasing 151 rare Pokemon cards that will be auctioned during Pokemon Day on February 27.
The Catch 151 event will run for 24 hours, allowing the collectors and fans to bid on the 151 ultra-rare cards.
eBay to Hold Catch 151 Auction Event
In celebration of this year's Pokemon Day, eBay will be conducting Catch 151 as a dedicated event that will auction original TCG cards along with popular recent sets. Each card will start its bidding with $1.51.
eBay has yet to release the complete list of the included cards. For now, the company provided some set of images to its event announcements, revealing some of the cards.
This includes the holo variants of the 1st edition Venusaur, Blastoise, and Charizard. Most of the cards are still in their mint condition.
Moreover, at least five Pikachu cards are expected to be auctioned in the event. This includes a Mitsuhiro Arita-signed card and mint-condition Ooyama's Pikachu from 1998. In addition, the 2020 Special Delivery Pikachu and the Pikachu Van Gogh card will also join the event.
eBay Expects Surge of Searches Before the Event
According to eBay Global Collectibles VP Gene Cook, the "Pokemon 151" searches have already increased by almost 11,000% last month compared to the same period a year ago. The release of the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet 151 set is also attributed to the increased trend.
During the event, the auction will also feature a couple of collaboration items that were done by the company in partnership with luxury brands. Rumors suggested that there will be items from the Tiffany & Co. x Daniel Arsham collab, Fendi x fragment collab, and more.
eBay assured fans and collectors that each item on the auction has passed the company's Authenticity Guarantee. All items on the auction are genuine Pokemon products.
