Apple Vision Pro Users Are Finding Random Cracks on Their Units’ Front Glass

The Apple Vision Pro users seem to have found another flaw with their AR/VR headset after several claims that buyers suffered headaches and neck strain. This time around, it's not the tolerance of users in question but the unit itself.

Front Glass Cracks in the Same Place

When you find a random crack on the screen of your Vision Pro even though you don't recall doing anything that might cause it, you might be among the owners who have reported that they suddenly found a hairline crack right in the middle of the headset's front glass.

All the reports have the same circumstances. The fractured area seems to be in the middle area of the front glass, and users claim that they did nothing that could cause it like dropping the device or putting any kind of pressure on it.

A Redditor posted on r/VisionPro to share his experience, and others claim that they've experienced other issues like the headset being warm when they left it plugged in. Upon starting the device back up after letting it cool off, the temperature only got worse.

The heat of the headset may have been a factor in what caused the reported cracks. Most of the Vision Pro users who claim to have the same damage also mentioned that they had the soft cover on, as per The Verge, which may have contributed to the potential overheating of the unit.

Some say that it might be a manufacturing problem while others speculate that the particular area is taking on too much pressure based on the design. Since the issue is relatively new among users, Apple has yet to address the problem.

If users wish to have the glass fixed, it would cost $500, and that's with Apple Care. Without the insurance policy, the Apple Vision Pro users will also have to pay the $299 deductible, resulting in a $799 cost for the repair.

This comes as a disappointment since the device has only been released about three weeks ago. With the already hefty price of $3,500, users did not expect to encounter the kind of problem that would cost them up to $800 in repairs.

Apple's Safety Consideration

The company already has a warning in place should this kind of incident happen. "If your Vision Pro breaks or cracks while you're wearing it, safely remove the device by holding the enclosure and head band. Don't use Apple Vision Pro if the display is cracked or broken."

Apple's safety consideration also mentions that while the unit is charging, the user should ensure that the battery does not get excessively warm by keeping it in a well-ventilated area, which may imply that the soft cover should stay off during this time.

In the event that more reports of the same defect emerge, it's possible that Apple might issue a recall to resolve the problem. For now, users will have to cover the cost of fixing the front glass when they take it to an Apple Store.
