Apple CEO Tim Cook said the company will disclose more about its plans to integrate generative AI later this year.
The news comes after his announcement at the company's annual shareholder meeting.
Apple Preps for Generative AI Breakthrough
Apple has been lagging behind its competitors when it comes to generative AI; rivals such as Microsoft and Google have already started using the technology for their latest products.
During the annual shareholder meeting, Cook shared that the company had invested and is currently working behind the scenes on Apple's products. The company is expecting an "incredible breakthrough potential" for generative AI.
"We believe it will unlock transformative opportunities for our users when it comes to productivity, problem-solving, and more," the CEO stated.
He also teased that more details will be shared later this year as the company continues to work on its AI integration.
Apple Says AI Has Been With Company for Years
Previously, Apple was keen on avoiding the term "AI" for their products and referred to it as machine learning. Cook has reframed some Apple products as "AI-powered," citing that AI has been with the company for years.
"AI allows Apple Watch to help you track your workouts, automatically detecting whether you're taking a walk or going for a swim. It enables your iPhone to call for help if you're in a car accident," he explained.
It is expected that Apple will announce its AI ventures during this year's Worldwide Developer Conference in June. The most current feature of Apple's AI technology is seen in Vision Pro's hand-tracking tool and MacBooks.
