Discord Will Release Video Game-Themed Avatars in Partnership with Developers

Discord has been popular among the gaming community because it allows them to connect and communicate with other players, wherein people can collaborate, team up, and share ideas. Acknowledging this popularity, Discord is collaborating with game developers to create avatars that users would appreciate.

New Discord Avatars

Discord has had themed items in its shop. The company released frames for avatars and effects for a user's profile, all of which can be purchased. Seeing its success, the selection will be expanded, and this time, it will be video game-themed.

The most popular among the options have been anime and fantasy, and users have been offering suggestions as to what they would like to see next. Luckily for us, Discord has been looking into the suggestions and is happy to add them.

With users wanting to see cosmetics that are based on the games they love, Discord is partnering with game developers to create profile effects and avatar decorations and add them to the shop for purchase, as mentioned in the company's blog post.

In more positive news, the game developers will also benefit from the addition as Discord will share the revenue from the purchases so they can "make additional money from their amazing creativity through Discord."

The social platform is tight-lipped about the plans for now, given that they signed a non-disclosure agreement (NDA). Announcements about the upcoming additions will arrive in just a few weeks, according to SVP of Product Peter Sellis.

Quests for Rewards

In addition to new cosmetics, the platform also announced Quests, which is a way for players to "discover games and earn rewards for playing them on Discord." The feature started off as an experiment, and the company found that millions had decided to participate and complete the quests.

Aside from a promising number of participants, Discord also received positive feedback from developers who partnered with the social network to create the challenges. One of the quests includes the "May the 4th" for Fortnite.

The mentioned Quests will "tastefully" show up within the platform where users can opt-in to stream their games to friends and win awards for playing. Users will either discover Quests themselves or see their friends trying to achieve the goal.

What You Can Purchase Right Now

While we are yet to see the video game-themed cosmetics and Quests on Discord, there are already available items that might be worth the purchase. As advertised, the choices include anime emotes, magical effects, or just breakfast food.

Users who are Nitro members can purchase items at a discounted price, as well as have access to an exclusive set of five DISXCORE-themed items to use while they're active members. The shop can be found right under the Nitro tab when users click on the Discord tab.

It can also be opened when a user edits their Discord profile through Profile Settings, which says "Go to Shop." It's important to note that browsing and purchasing in the shop is only available on the desktop or web apps.
