'Shōgun' Premiere Beats 'The Bear' Viewership Record on Hulu

FX's "Shōgun" had a successful debut after Disney confirmed that the premier episode garnered nine million views globally on Hulu, Disney+, and Star+.

"Shōgun" also officially dethroned the premiere of "The Bear" season 2 as the most-watched General Entertainment series that was released globally.

'Shōgun' Debuts Successfully on Hulu, Disney+, Star+

"Shōgun" had an impressive launch despite having only three episodes. According to Disney, the series owed is huge viewership through the company's new bundle which features Hulu on Disney+.

"Domestically, 'Shōgun' is the No. 1 FX premiere on Hulu, just ahead of 'The Bear' Season 2, thanks to viewership from Hulu on Disney+. Internationally, 'Shōgun' is No. 1 across all General Entertainment series releases, ahead of 'The Kardashians' Season 1," the company announced.

Fans should wait for new episodes every Tuesday until April 23. The next episode will be titled "The Eightfold Fence" and will be shown on Hulu in the U.S. The series will also be available on Star+ and Disney+ in Latin America, and exclusively on Disney+ in all other territories. Each episode will air at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.

'Shōgun' Production Mixes Japanese, American Stars

"Shōgun" is a historical drama series that was based on the novel of the same title by James Clavell. Previously, the book was adapted into a miniseries during the 80s.

FX's "Shōgun" is created by Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks. The series also features an acclaimed Japanese cast such as Hiroyuki Sanada, who is also a producer.

Anna Sawai, Tadanobu Asano, Hiroto Kanai, Takehiro Hira, and more are also part of the cast. They are also joined by Moeka Hoshi, Tokuma Nishioka, Shinnosuke Abe, Yuki Kura, Yuka Kouri, and Fumi Nikaido.
