New iPad Pro models featuring OLED displays are expected to be announced this month and will likely start to ship in April, per Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC).
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman also shared in his newsletter that the new iPad models might not even ship until "deeper" into April.
Apple to Introduce Next-Gen iPads With OLED
Apple has been dabbling with OLED displays since 2015 when it debuted a new screen for the Apple Watch line. In addition, the release of the iPhone X welcomed OLED to the phone line.
The tech giant surprised many after skipping the iPad lineup upgrade last year. Several reports have shown that Apple is ready to commit to an OLED display for its 2024 iPad hardware, resulting in its delays.
According to DSCC, Apple has been going back and forth with the OLED suppliers for the 2024 iPad Pro line. Rumors were describing the new iPad Pro as the "first OLED tablet panels with LTPO, tandem stacks, and glass thinning."
DSCC shared that Apple both tasked Samsung Display and LG Display to produce new panels. For instance, LG was initially asked to produce 12.9-inch panels while Samsung will be responsible for the 11.1-inch panels. However, new reports showed that LG is also joining Samsung to produce the 11.1-inch panels.
OLED iPad Pro Launch
The DSCC believes that Apple will announce the new iPad line in March. However, shipments will most likely start by next month. With only two weeks left in March, Apple fans are waiting eagerly for the announcement.
In addition, it should be expected that the OLED 11.1-inch iPad Pro will be more expensive than ever. However, the iPad Air line could offer a cheaper alternative but without the OLED display.
The upcoming iPad Pro models are also expected to be powered by the M3 chip while the iPad Air models will have the M2 chip with a 12.9-inch display.
