Apple’s WWDC 2024 Event May Bring News About Its AI Strategy

Even though Apple is one of the top companies in the tech industry, it's obvious that the iPhone maker has been behind with AI. Even its main competitor, Samsung, has already introduced Galaxy AI. With this year's WWDC event, we might finally hear what Apple has in store for artificial intelligence.

Apple's Potential AI Plans

With the Worldwide Developers Conference drawing near, Apple enthusiasts and consumers of the company's products are excited to hear what the company has in store. It might answer one of the biggest questions for the company, specifically about its strategy for AI.

This is already expected since Apple CEO Tim Cook expressed that the company was "investing significantly" in AI, even teasing announcements regarding the technology "later this year," as reported by CNBC, and what better time than doing it during the conference?

Apple might reveal its plans on the first day, which is usually when the keynote takes place. This year, the video will be led by Cook and other Apple employees, and you will be able to watch it live on YouTube.

It won't just be about AI too. Like all the previous WWDC events, Apple will cover a lot of topics regarding new features, devices, and more. The tech giant already plans to announce the first major software for its AR/VR headset, the Apple Vision Pro.

Apple is Already in Talks with Google

Apple is behind the AI race compared to the other company giants in the industry. The company is already working on its own AI model, reportedly codenamed Ajax. It even has plans to create its own chatbot called Apple GPT, but so far, progress has been slow.

With Apple not being able to keep up, the iPhone maker decided to partner with a company that already has established AI models such as Google. Google's generative AI is arguably one of the most advanced large language models out there.

With this partnership, Apple will be able to bring AI features into its devices while it's still working on codename Ajax. Apple will be using Google's generative AI Gemini, which will be integrated into the next iPhone models, as reported by The New York Times.

According to sources with knowledge of the deal, it's still at the preliminary stages, and the extent of the potential deal is still unknown. This may be Tim Cook's way of making good on a promise to investors that the company will roll out AI features within the year.

We can expect the deal to go smoothly, given that Apple already has an existing partnership with Google since 2007. Apple's default search engine has been Google's since then and pays the company $18 billion a year for its services.

It's still unknown what the exact AI features would be, but Apple might include functions that would rival that of Samsung, which offers various AI-powered tools for image search, photo editing, live translation, and more. It's likely that Apple would even provide more unique features to get ahead of the AI race.
