People can be pretty mean when they don't get what they want, and that's what's happening with the upcoming new seasons of Netflix's "The Witcher," wherein the main role is getting a new actor. Amid all the backlash and unsavory comments, Ciri actor Freya Allan shares her thoughts.
Allan Feels Bad for the New Geralt Actor
No one's happy about Henry Cavill's departure from the show, especially since he was regarded as the perfect actor for the role. Other than his acting skills and appearance, Cavill was also an avid fan of the source material and respected it greatly.
When news about him leaving the show hit the headlines, many immediately concluded that the show would not survive the change, but that was not the end of it. When it was announced that Liam Hemsworth was taking over as Geralt, fans took the opportunity to go after the actor.
Misplaced disappointment over the recast fell on Liam Hemsworth, where fans started saying that he was "Geralt from Wish," among other insults. Freya Allan, the actress behind Cirilla, addressed the backlash the actor was receiving.
"I feel sorry for him," she expressed, adding that the fanbase can be "attack-y" and that it's not an ideal situation to be in when taking up someone else's role. Other than that, Allan said she was excited to see what he does for the show, as per ScreenRant.
If it makes any difference, the actress also said that Hemsworth has been training for the role, which shows how much work he's putting into doing the casting justice. It's undeniable that the bar was set high, but there's no reason to antagonize the actor.
After all, it's simply a job that needs to be filled. Hemsworth just happens to be the actor who landed the role after Cavill exited the show. The new actor for Geralt could very well surprise everyone, and judging without seeing him in action is a bit unfair, for any actor.
Liam Hemsworth has had experience with action films as well, which means that he already has a background in what he has to do. Some of the films he's been cast in include "Land of Bad," "The Hunger Games" film series, and "The Expendables 2."
The Future of 'The Witcher'
The exit of Cavill did not mean the end of the show. In fact, it has been renewed for two more seasons, which will be the fifth and the final one. Both will be filmed back-to-back and will adapt the last three remaining books from the series written by Andrzej Sapkowski.
Fans of the books might miss a couple of scenes since showrunners will have to fit in "Baptism of Fire," "The Tower of the Swallow," and "Lady of the Lake" in just two seasons, as mentioned in IGN, but it's more than likely that the significant events will not be left out.
There are also new characters that are set to be introduced in the coming seasons, such as Emiel Regis Rohellec Terzieff-Godefroy or just Regis, a higher vampire, which will be played by "The Matrix" actor Laurence Fishburne.
