TikTok confirmed that it is testing 60-minute video uploads on the platform and is now available to a selected group of users on limited markets.
The company also revealed that the experiment will not be available anytime soon to the public.
TikTok Continues to Extend Video Limits
During TikTok's launch, the platform allowed users to upload up to 15-second-long videos. Over the years, the company gradually increased its video limits. Today, users can upload their videos from 15 seconds to 10 minutes.
Earlier this year, TikTok allowed select creators to post up to 30 minutes of clips. Meanwhile, content creators and influencers with subscriptions on their accounts can have 20-minute uploads.
Social media consultant Matt Navarra first reported the exclusive testing. "Upload videos up to 60 minutes long! Make sure your app is up-to-date, then try uploading from your app or desktop," the screenshot stated.
TikTok Boosts Short-Form Content
TikTok's creation became a launching pad for shortform vertical content. The platform gained popularity by taking advantage of people's shorter attention spans. However, TikTok is now exploring the idea of pushing towards long-form videos as well.
The platform revealed that several creators have been requesting extended video duration. Content such as cooking tutorials, makeup, educational, comedic sketches, and more often need more time. This will also prevent creators from redirecting their viewers to part two of their video.
TikTok's experimentation with long-form videos will be a strong competition to YouTube. The company hopes that more creators will lean toward transitioning to TikTok, especially those who post regularly on YouTube.
