The SIM-free Sony Xperia Z2 finally has an official launch date, as Clove UK has just announced it will start shipping the device on May 9.
After facing a few hurdles, the Sony Xperia Z2 has been up for pre-order in the UK for the past few weeks, from several retailers that offered the SIM-free version. Sony had previously reassured everyone that it will ship the handset in May, and Clove UK has now confirmed the exact date.
The delay of Sony's latest flagship has been much publicized and talked-about, and Clove itself has offered regular updates on the matter. On the bright side, the wait is now almost over.
"The good news now though is that we can forget about the delay and focus on the arrival of stock, which has now been confirmed by Sony as Friday 9th May," Clove notes in a new company blog post on Tuesday, April 29.
The SIM-free Sony Xperia Z2 comes unlocked, which means that buyers will be able to use it on any mobile carrier without needing to sign a lengthy contract. The device will cost £540 including tax in the UK, and Clove is also throwing in a free bundle "comprising of £200 worth of products and content." The handset will be available in black or white color options.
In terms of hardware, the Sony Xperia Z2 is a real powerhouse packed with high-end specs and features. The smartphone sports a large 5.2-inch display with a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.3GHz under the hood, and a hefty 3GB of RAM for a fast and smooth performance.
Other specs include 16GB if internal storage capacity, a microSD card slot for additional memory of up to 128GB, a 20.7-megapixel Sony Exmor RS rear camera, and a 2.2-megapixel Sony Exmor R front shooter. The handset is also dust- and waterproof for extra durability.
