Google Password Manager has finally implemented its password-sharing feature, allowing users to share their credentials with people in their family group.
Google first confirmed the feature earlier this year after months of speculations and leaks online.
Google Allows Password-Sharing With Limitations
Google revealed that the password-sharing feature will be part of the May 2024 Google Play Services update (v24.20). The new feature will allow users to share usernames and passwords within their family group in a secure manner.
"With this new feature, you can now securely share your passwords with your family group in Google Password Manager. When you share a password, your family members will receive a copy of it in their Google Password Manager, ready to be used," the company explained in a support page.
When Google first introduced the feature, the company used a situation of managing a daycare using a single account or children giving their parents access to their schoolwork. The new feature can also be utilized for sharing access to streaming services, VPNs, and more.
How to Activate Password Sharing Feature
Users must first create a family group and start adding members to it. The update is available on the System & Updates portion of the Google Play system.
Once the family group is all set, users can now try the feature by clicking the "share" button on the Google Password Manager. A prompt will notify the user to confirm the sharing of passwords.
Family members will have a copy of each other's username and password. This will allow any members of the group to sign in on your behalf and vice versa.
The feature is now available on smartphones but desktop Chrome users might have to wait further for it to appear.
