Spotify Might Add a Spanish-Speaking AI DJ as Seen in the App’s Code

Spotify is among the many apps that have been taking advantage of the AI hype. It has AI features like DJ X, which has been helpful for listeners who want a unique experience with the app. It looks like the streaming service aims to add a Spanish-speaking version of the feature as well.

AI DJ's Language Expansion

If Spotify decides to release the feature, it will be the first language expansion the app is making for its AI-powered DJ X. The potential addition was spotted in the app's code by a reverse engineer Chris Messina, wherein the new DJ would supposedly be called "DJ Livi."

Based on the code analyzed by the tech veteran, it also suggests that DJ Livi would be available in Mexico. It makes sense for Spotify to expand its languages when it comes to dialogue-based features like the DJ to make for a more comfortable listening experience.

While there are languages that have more speakers like Mandarin, Spanish is also a popular language internationally. Most importantly, it's one of the most spoken languages in the US which Spotify considers a key market.

There are over 42 million who speak Spanish in their homes, which makes for a pretty convincing reason that it is the next best language for Spotify to focus on. Spotify did not deny that there is, in fact, a DJ Livi within their app's code.

When asked, a Spotify spokesperson responded by saying that they "routinely conduct a number of tests aimed at letting users express themselves through the music they love," as mentioned in Tech Crunch.

"Some of those end up paving the path for our broader user experience and others serve only as important learnings. We have no further news to share on future plans at this time," the representative continued, which means that there really is a chance the option might be launched.

Spotify's DJ X

So far, Spotify's DJ X has been receiving good reviews from those who have tried it. It's a helpful addition for those who cannot decide what they want to play, as well as those who want to discover new music.

The feature plays music by fives. The themes are random, and the listener can skip it any time they want another. It can go from songs you haven't listened to in a long time to music you might like based on your listening history.

The DJ even explains why they pick the selection of tracks they intend to play, such as saying how you might like new music from a certain artist because you already listened to others like that musician, which is a nice change of pace from the usuals.

It's not the only AI feature that Spotify has. Users can enter prompts to describe the kind of mood they would like for a playlist, and the app generates a list of them. It can be as vague as "songs for a sunny day" or as specific as "songs you would play in a dark room on a Saturday night."
