Apple Preps for Project Greymatter for WWDC 2024

Mark Gurman's newsletter for Bloomberg reported Apple's new strategy called Project Greymatter which will handle all the AI-related features of the company. The tech giant is finally introducing AI features to the much-awaited iOS 18 and macOS 15.

Moreover, the AI features will be divided into two wherein some will be handled locally on the device, while others will require Apple's cloud infrastructure processing. The on-device features are compatible with the latest iPhone, iPad, and Mac chips.

As for the cloud-linked features, they will be powered by M2 Ultra chips from data centers. It is expected that most of the AI tools will be available on-device except for tools that will require more horsepower.

Apple to Bring Upgrades on Core Apps, Siri

The Project Greymatter is set to bring AI tools that will significantly improve the performance of Notes, Safari, and Photos. For instance, tools for transcribing voice memos, faster searches, and AI-retouched photos are expected to launch.

Siri is also getting its much-requested upgrade. Apple was previously reported on developing a more natural and accurate interaction with the personal assistant. The tech giant will utilize its large language models to improve Siri's answering capabilities.

In addition, Siri is expected to get a more advanced version of the Apple Watch. A separate version will be used for handling on-the-go tasks.

Apple is also bringing generative AI emojis that will soon allow users to get an all-new emoji that extends beyond the existing options on iPhones and other devices.

The WWDC 2024 will run from June 10 to June 14.
