Opera Debuts Google Gemini-Powered Aria AI Assistant to Browser Family

Opera is bringing Google's Gemini in the form of an AI assistant called Aria across its browser platforms, including its dedicated gaming browser Opera GX.

The Gemini AI will be in addition to the several AI models built inside Aria to provide the chatbot with image-understanding capabilities and talk with users "in a conversational-like fashion."

Opera first released Aria last year as an AI that will help users code, solve math problems, and generate images and texts to help "interact with content that you come across on a daily basis."

As of writing, more than 50 large language models can be plugged into Aria to test out different capabilities and specialties.

The upgraded Aria chatbot can now be accessed across all Opera browsers on PCs, tablets, and smartphones.

How to Access the Aria AI Assistant on Opera?

To open Aria, users can click the "Ctrl + /" keys to enable the feature automatically. For Android and iOS users, simply access the main menu and look for the highlighted Aria AI assistant feature.

Both versions will require users to create or log in to their Opera accounts before accessing the AI.

Users can also customize Aria, including switching the LLM being used by the AI, via Settings at the sidebar, and clicking the Aria menu to access all of its features and capabilities.

Bug-Riddled Gemini Expands Across Other Platforms, Services

The arrival of the revamped Google Gemini into Opera marks the expansion of the tech giant's AI model despite several reports highlighting safety faults in its features.

Google recently came under fire shortly after this year's I/O conference where the company showcased all of its latest AI improvements, including another demo for Gemini.

During the demo, keen-eyed viewers and The Verge spotted that the Gemini-integrated video search feature generated incorrect answers to the prompt.

Several days later, many users also reported finding inaccurate and even dangerous answers from the Gemini-integrated AI Overviews in Google Search.

It did not help that many of these issues have already been present in previous iterations of the AI, including instances of generating racially inaccurate images of historical figures.
