Resident Evil 7 and the 2019 Resident Evil 2 remake will soon be playable on newer iPhones, iPads, and Macs as Apple poses to bring in more graphic-intensive games into its devices.
Announced during this year's Worldwide Developer's Conference, the iPhone maker unveiled details on the new Resident Evil 7 mobile port, powered by Capcom's RE Engine and Apple's MetalFX Upscaling feature.
Unfortunately, both games will only be playable on the iPhone 15 Pro series or iPads and Macs with processing chips no older than the M1 processor, Engadget reported.
Resident Evil 7, along with its DLCs like End of Zoe, Banned Footage Vol. 1, and Vol. 2, will arrive in the Apple Store sometime in October.
As for the remake of Resident Evil 2, neither Capcom nor Apple provided a specific release date for the game as it is still "currently in development."
The announcement follows Apple's earlier statements to soon bring more console and PC games on its newer generations of iPhones, iPads, and Macs as it increases the processing power of its devices.
So far, the company has already ported Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding, Resident Evil 4 remake, and Resident Evil Village last year.
iPhone-Ported Games Vs PCs, Console Version
If the same level of quality as the previous Resident Evil games on iPhones and iPads is to be expected, then the same performance issues might also be seen in the upcoming games this year.
As many users have earlier pointed out, newer generations of Apple devices can handle graphic- and processing-intensive games only for a short time.
The game optimization would still not resolve heating problems inherent in mobile devices that would only hamper the game's performance in the long run, not to mention the battery draining fast.
As it stands now, playing on mobile ports is more of a novelty rather than an accessibility feature due to drastic differences between the iPhone version and the original releases on the much cheaper PCs and consoles.
Apple Unveils Service Expansion in 2024 WWDC
The upcoming release of more Resident Evil games is only a part of the huge wave of rollouts Apple has brought to its devices for this year and the next.
Most notable changes are the improvements brought by its partnership with OpenAI as the tech giant revamps Siri, the overall notification system, and operating system assistants.
Most of the new features will come in the much-awaited iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, which Apple has already released ahead of the iPhone 16 rollout.
