Starfield is among the most expensive games to buy during its release with a price tag of $70, and that's only the Standard Edition. If players wanted the extra content, they had to pony up $100. Even with the massive costs, Bethesda will be charging $7 for the new DLC, and players are not happy.
Starfield: Shattered Space DLC Will Cost $7
Bethesda had some good news to share during the Xbox Showcase 2024, wherein it announced new content for two of its games, Fallout 76 and Starfield. The latter's trailer for the new content was nothing short of mesmerizing, and players were excited to see what it offers.
That excitement turned to disappointment when fans learned that they had to pay $7 to progress with the Track Alliance missions, and the paywall only comes after the second mission, which means that things will remain unfinished if players refuse to pay.
It's not even just $7. In order to access the second mission titled The Vulture, they will have to pay the mentioned cost as well as 700 Creation Credits. Since there's no option for that exact amount, fans will have to opt for the 1,000 Creation Credits which costs $10, as per Game Spot.
Since there's nothing else to do but pay the price or leave the mission unfinished, players took to forums and Steam to complain. While Reddit rants won't reflect on the game as significantly, Steam reviews do, and it is currently labeled Mixed after players review bombed the game.
Some pointed to Bethesda's recurring issue of bugs (especially game-breaking ones), while others accused the studio of relying on independent modders to fix their game. Of course, one of the biggest downsides to Bethesda games, the endless loading screens.
"Putting quests behind a paywall. You should be ashamed," one player posted. A few reviews even pointed out how Bethesda was ringing its own bell by calling itself a "masterpiece," as noted by a player.
Fallout 76 Expansion is Free
Bethesda can at least say that it is giving fans something without cost in the form of an expansion. The recently released additional content is called Skyline Valley, and it serves as a map expansion where players get to explore new locations.
For one, there's the region called Shenandoah where Vault 63 is located. Players will have to investigate what happened to its dwellers, as reported by Engadget, only to find that they will have to fight Ghouls along the way with full armor.
There's even a surprise by the end of the announcement trailer, stating that fans can now play as Ghouls themselves. Unfortunately, that option was not released with the expansion. The much-requested choice will be released next year.
This has certainly attracted new and returning players to the game. As of June 13th, the game has 27,744 players. It's just a little down from the numbers during the expansion's release on June 12th, which had a peak of 31,566 players.
