WhatsApp launched several video call updates to improve the platform's communication line on bigger groups, starting in the next few weeks.
Calling has been part of WhatsApp since 2015 with Meta working to enhance its multi-platform support.
WhatsApp Introduces Calling Updates Similar to Video Conference Apps
In a blog post, Meta shared three important updates that will roll out to all WhatsApp users in the following weeks. The screen sharing with audio will allow users to watch videos together and share their audio for a more immersive experience.
Moreover, the speaker spotlight feature will automatically highlight the one who is talking. The speaker will also appear first on the screen, giving users the chance to focus better during conversations.
WhatsApp is also expanding its video call capabilities. Group calls can now handle up to 32 people in a conference. It will also be supported across all devices with the app.
WhatsApp Directs Efforts to Call Improvements
Meta recently introduced the MLow codec which improves call reliability for WhatsApp. Users who are calling using their smartphones will have improved noise and echo cancellation, making it easier to join conversations even in noisy environments.
In addition, the app will automatically offer the best quality on video calls once it detects stable and fast connections. The faster the internet, the higher the resolutions will reflect on the screen.
WhatsApp still assured that users with poor network connectivity and older devices will still have crisper audio overall during calls.
Earlier this month, Meta launched its business tools for entrepreneurs on WhatsApp. Meta AI is also officially running on the platform to help business owners create ads and reach their market.
The app also launched a new calling feature for larger businesses, allowing users to call and get help easily through their queries.
