Hollow Knight: Silksong Unlikely to Release This Year, Again

Hollow Knight fans might need to wait a little bit more as Silksong, the much-awaited sequel to the 2017 indie side-scrolling platformer, is unlikely to be released this year, again.

Despite the wave of new game announcements in this year's Xbox Games Showcase, Nintendo Direct, and Summer Games Fest, not one has mentioned any 2024 or 2025 Silksong release date.

Silksong, which was initially intended as a DLC, was first announced as a direct sequel to Hollow Knight in February 2019.

Speculations about Hollow Knight: Silksong releasing in June 2023 first started after the Xbox seemingly confirmed the rollout during the 2022 Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase.

Over two years since no new details about the Hollow Knight sequel have been publicized.

The game's developer, Team Cherry, has also been relatively quiet on the current progress of Silksong since the game was announced to be available on PS5 and PS4 in September 2022.

It is worth noting that Team Cherry consists of only three people "already working rather hard" on the game.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Still Among the Most-Awaited Game Release

Despite dwindling hopes about its release, Hollow Knight: Silksong is still the second most-wishlisted game on Steam, just behind Black Myth: Wukong set to release on Aug. 19.

The game has held the top five spot since 2019 while other games on the list finally receive their release date.

Even now, Hollow Knight fans continue to carry the dream to one day see the release of the sequel as people revisit the Xbox post and make memes about the long wait.

Some even took the opportunity to poke fun at Metroid Prime getting a new installment after nearly 17 years while Silksong still has to wait for any crumbs of information.

Hollow Knight Alternatives While Waiting for Silksong

If you are looking for a worthy successor for Hollow Knight but cannot wait any longer for Silksong, worry not because there are a lot of other side-scrolling platformers that can satisfy that itch.

Notable mentions include Ori and the Blind Forest, its sequel Will of the Wisps, Ender Lilies, the Castlevania franchise, and the Metroid series.

Most of these games have overarching narratives and rich environmental lore Hollow Knight fans can delve into, at least if they not have already done so over these past years.
