5 Video Games Where You Can Be the Bad Guy

More often than not, role-playing games will have you be the kind of protagonist who does what they do for the common good. There are rarely any titles that allow you to be the villain, but there are some. If you want to mix things up, here are some RPGs you might be interested in.

1. Red Dead Redemption 2

In the Wild West-themed game, the character you play is already an outlaw, to begin with, but one of the points of the narrative is that some of the people who are seen as the bad guys sometimes do bad things to survive.

In this game, however, you can be a genuinely evil outlaw. Since there are choice-based aspects in the game, you can opt for immoral dialogue and actions. Just know that the game has an honor meter, and having a low bar by the end will have some consequences.

2. Vampyr

You're probably already aware of the nature of the supernatural beings called vampires. Different stories come with different abilities or characteristics, like a certain YA novel that has vampires sparkling under sunlight. What they all have in common is that they drink human blood.

In Vampyr, you will also be doing that as you play Jonathan Reid, a vampire who also happens to be a doctor. Like Red Dead Redemption 2, you have options to still be the good guy, but you can lean into the dark side if you choose to be. You can manipulate people and feed on them.

3. Fallout 4: Nuka-World

Nuka-World is a new location that players can visit if they purchase and download the DLC with the same name. It's a theme park based on the popular in-game product, Nuka Cola. Once you get to the park, you'll find that it is infested with raiders divided into three raider gangs.

You can choose to be their boss and become a raider yourself. You can take over settlements in the base game's main map, the Commonwealth, as well as enslave other settlements and have them as Vassals, which will be your raider outposts' main source of food.

Your character having superpowers makes for satisfying and interesting gameplay, but Sucker Punch, the developer of the Infamous franchise lets you decide whether you would be a moral or immoral powerful being.

What's funny is that certain aspects of the game actually encourage you to be the bad guy. There's a morality meter in the game as well, and of course, being the bad guy will come with consequences, but it will also unlock abilities that being good will not get you.

5. Cyberpunk 2077

The dystopian sci-fi also comes with choices in terms of dialogue and decisions in the game. While it all points to the same endings, and you can't exactly be an actual villain, there are still despicable things you can do in the game that would alienate certain characters.

You can abandon them in their time of need, you can kill someone who was forced to do bad things because their loved ones were threatened, and you can be disagreeable with the dialogue choices.
