Spotify's AI-powered DJ feature is currently over one year old as more premium subscribers are introduced to the "personalized AI guide that knows you and your music taste." 

With the platform experiencing various changes and reprioritization over the past months, the question now remains on whether the Spotify AI DJ is still able to fully serve its purpose.

Fully Utilizes Spotify's Algorithm

In terms of its basic coverage, the AI DJ is the primary example of utilizing Spotify's algorithm to its fullest, offering users their favorite tracks while bringing suggestions according to their preferences.

The company's recent approach to AI integration has only further improved users' experience with the feature, giving users more flexibility to adjust the AI's playlist for every song they listen to on the platform.

The smooth transition also helps reduce downtime on silent parts of the song during its end and the starting parts of the next track.

AI DJ Remains Mostly a Playlist

Despite its algorithmic improvements, the AI DJ is mostly considered as a glorified playlist rather than an actual replacement or imitation of real-life radio DJs.

For one, the AI avatar provides little to no addition to the user's experience most features on the AI DJ can already be accessed on Spotify's "Discover Weekly" and other recommended playlists.

An article from How-To Geek even suggested allowing the AI to read some personalized news in between music would make the feature more indispensable for daily use rather than a novelty most users would only access once or twice.

As it stands now, the feature offers people little incentive to become a regular part of the user experience on Spotify.

Accessibility, Variety Features

The AI DJ has its primary weakness and strength in the fact that it is only dedicated to playing music.

This means that the AI has a more limited variety and flexibility to offer to other users outside of its intended initial audience.

Reports of Spotify adding a Spanish version for the AI DJ only came over the past weeks, over a year since the feature was launched to a global audience.

This means that most users outside of the English-speaking community would resort to the Spotify AI DJ's English version with the AI often recommending songs related to tracks the user often listens to only.
