Resident Evil 9 is now officially in the works with Resident Evil 7: Biohazard director Koshi Nakanishi heading the development of the much-awaited sequel.
The announcement was dropped as Resident Evil series publisher Capcom unveiled the Dead Rising Remaster set to release on Sept. 9 with upgraded graphics and other quality-of-life improvements.
No exact dates for the sequel's release were given, although it is expected that more details may come out after Capcom rolls out its Resident Evil remakes for the next two years.
Nakanishi did not also provide much detail on the ninth installment of the franchise but said he had found something "substantial" to continue the series after Biohazard.
Nakanishi is among Capcom's most notable figures in the Resident Evil franchise, directing the Resident Evil Mercenaries 3D and the 2012 Resident Evil: Revelations, as well as designing for RE 5.
Of course, there is his major contribution in reviving the franchise in 2017 by reinventing the Resident Evil games back to its roots with Biohazard.
Resident Evil 9: What We Know So Far?
Rumors about the planned Resident Evil 9 sequel have long circulated online following the release of RE 8: Village in 2021.
Many fans have speculated that the series would focus back on its most popular protagonist, Leon Kennedy after he went missing after the events of Resident Evil 6.
The ending of RE 8 even hinted at possibilities that the series' first protagonist Chris Redfield and Leon would soon be together again tracking clues about the rumored revival of Umbrella Corp.
With Nakanishi in the lead, fans can expect more horror elements mixed with the franchise's classic environmental puzzle and weapon management.

More Resident Evil Games Coming Soon
Of course, Resident Evil 9 is not the only RE title Capcom is preparing to roll out these coming months and the next two years.
During the same Dead Rising broadcast, the game publisher shared more details on the planned RE 7 and RE 2 remake for the iOS release later this year.
Although no confirmation has been given yet, fans expect that the company is already building up plans to reinvent Resident Evil 5, particularly its unique game mechanic.
There have also been talks of Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil remakes (again) but have since panned out after several insider sources disputed the claims.
