The release for Grand Theft Auto 6 cannot arrive fast enough, and fans of the game franchise are itching to finally see how good the game will be. Console players will be able to play it as soon as it drops. For PC players, however, it will likely be a while.
GTA 6's Late PC Release
A late release for the PC version of the game is already expected, especially since this has been the practice of Rockstar Studios for its previous games. That means that if you want to play it immediately to avoid spoilers, you might have to buy a console.
The good news is that it will be released on PC sooner or later. The only confirmed release for now is for the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X|S, so you're among the lucky ones if you already have the mentioned consoles by the time the game is released.
As for how long the wait will be for PC users, there's no definite window for it considering that Rockstar Games hasn't even announced a PC port for the game. If past releases serve as the basis, it could be a year-long wait.
As mentioned in Digital Trends, GTA 5 took almost a year after release before a PC port arrived. It was even longer for Red Dead Redemption 2 since it was a year and a month before it got a PC version. Players can only hope that the wait won't be as long for the upcoming GTA title.
If the game is released within the expected window of 2025, then PC players might be able to play the game by 2026, and that's assuming that the development of the PC port doesn't take long. If so, then it could be as late as the first half of 2027.
A Rockstar Games developer shed light on why the PC port takes longer. For one, the company wants to prioritize what sells. "Most of the time, especially in the past, PlayStation was the big seller. PlayStation was the console to have."
Another is how PC games differ from console games. "This is very important for everybody to remember: one of the main reasons why a PC port will take so long is because of its different architecture and different components.
What We Know About GTA 6
The mentioned game is easily one of the most anticipated titles, just like the previous games before it, and while it's still about a year away from release, there are already trailers and other announcements that can satisfy eager fans for the moment.
The trailer shows that players might play the protagonist Lucia. We see some very interesting citizens as well in a place based on Miami. There will be sunny beaches, alligators, car chases, and of course, lots of guns.
The game will be set in a fictional place called Leonida, as per Tech Radar, which is right around Vice City, so we might see a couple of references from older games. Fans would definitely lose their minds if they saw a graying Tommy Vercetti from GTA Vice City make an appearance.
