Reddit to Feature More Sports Highlights with NFL, MLB, NBA Partnerships

Reddit users might soon see more sports highlights in their feeds as the social platform secured content partnerships with major sporting leagues like the NFL, the MLB, and the NBA.

In a blog post on Monday, Reddit announced that it will soon bring more sports highlights, exclusive behind-the-scenes, videos, and special content for major sporting events, all of which are available on its premium subscription service.

In return, partnered businesses like Samsung, Ford, and Volkswagen will have exclusive rights to show ads on sporting league-related content.

So far, the platform has already tested the new partnership program during the 2023-2024 NFL season, which the platform claimed to be a success.

Reddit touted that the new partnerships will help test "new ways to connect fans with special content from the most significant leagues."

The platform is also expected to showcase more PGA Tour and NASCAR events for their target audience.

Reddit Opens Path for New Platform Partnerships

The sporting league collaborations are only part of the latest partnership program after Reddit opened to public investors.

Earlier this year, Reddit also inked a partnership with OpenAI and Google to license its user content to train their AI models.

In return, the platform has started receiving more features to improve user experience on the site, although most are notably locked behind its subscription paywall.

Reddit CEO Jen Wong has long advocated the expansion of the platform beyond a forum board to attract more users to the site.

More Reddit Video Ads in the Future

In the same sense, the partnerships can be expected to soon pave the way to more video ads on the platform as Reddit looks for ways to monetize its services that have long been noted to be unprofitable.

Other platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter) have long adapted similar methods to leverage the millions of active users on their sites.
