Microsoft Attributes Success of 'Fallout' TV Series for Boosted Monthly Active Gamers

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced a milestone for its gaming division after gaining more than 500 million monthly active users after the success of "Fallout" TV series.

The series based on Bethesda's popular video game franchise accumulated 65 million viewers in its first 16 days on Prime Video.

Microsoft Says 'Fallout' Increases Hours Played on Game Pass

During the recent quarterly earnings call, Nadella revealed that the success of "Fallout" caused boosted hours of play on Xbox Game Pass for the franchise. It has increased by almost five times quarter-over-quarter.

Reports showed that after the series' successful launch, Bethesda recorded a sudden surge in its active player count across its all gaming titles. Fallout 76 had more than one million players in one day and Fallout 4 also experienced an increase in gaming time.

Every Fallout game is available on Game Pass, making it an easy choice for fans to get a subscription to play these games. The show has effectively increased the subscription revenue from the Game Pass.

Amazon Works on 'Fallout' Season 2 to Continue the Hype

The series got an early green light for its second season renewal. Amazon revealed the news only a week after its premiere on Prime Video, acknowledging the wide reach of the series.

"We are thrilled to announce season two after only one week out and take viewers even farther into the surreal world of Fallout," Amazon MGM Studios head Jennifer Salke said in a statement.

As of writing, the production team stated that they are trying to work as fast as they possibly can to ensure that the next season won't leave the fans hanging for a long time. The right timing is also crucial for the companies and the studio to ensure that it would spark positive feedback to the whole franchise again.
