Meta Quest 3: HDMI Link App is Now Available for Download

Meta recently dropped its "most requested feature" for Quest 3 headsets that users can now enjoy, which is the HDMI Link app for all kinds of content mirroring. Through this app, users may connect their eligible devices like consoles, smartphones, and PCs for viewing inside the headset, which would also work in mixed reality mode.

The latest app for Meta's wearable experience is also available for older headsets including the Quest 2 and the Quest Pro.

Meta's chief technology officer (CTO) Andrew "Boz" Bosworth revealed the arrival of the HDMI Link app to Quest devices. The app is now available for download via the App Lab. According to Bosworth, the app has been the "most requested feature" by users as they want to be able to cast on their headsets.

This feature is available for various headsets, including the Quest 3, Quest 2, and the Quest Pro, and it only requires a third-party UVC capture card and the app to set it up.

According to Meta's blog post, the release of the HDMI Link app follows the introduction of the Link Cable in 2019, which offers wired connection for PCs to the headset. The AirLink has also since been introduced, which made this experience wireless.

View or Mirror Consoles, Smartphones, and PCs in a Headset

The Quest headsets are said to be "part of a broader ecosystem. With the arrival of the new app, devices like gaming consoles, smartphones, PCs, and more may be wirelessly connected to the wearables.

Moreover, users ill get 1080p resolution at 60fps, promising "near-zero" latency with this mirroring experience. In Quest 3's mixed-reality mode, users can place their 2D screens anywhere in their field of vision, which can also be resized or repositioned whenever needed.

Meta Quest Wearables' and Their Market Dominance

Oculus remains one of the most popular names in the VR industry, even so after being acquired by Facebook (now Meta) in 2014.

Since the first Quest headset, it has provided fans and users with the immersive experiences that only headsets can bring. However, things reached a whole new level with last year's introduction of the Meta Quest 3. The latest wearable device from Meta offered the much-talked about mixed-reality (XR) experience as well as other unique features.

While virtual reality (VR) has been its main focus throughout the years, the addition of Augmented Reality (AR) showed the development of the company's projects, proving that it is ready to take on the likes of the Apple Vision Pro. The Quest 2 and Quest Pro, for example, also bring topnotch VR experiences to the table.

Meta has proven with the release of that app that it listens to its users. With the arrival of the HDMI Link app, users can now enjoy a convenient and efficient way of mirroring from eligible devices to the Quest headsets.
