X: Grok AI to Direct Users to Vote.gov Website, Correcting Election Fake News About Ballot Deadline

The AI chatbot from X known as Grok will now lead users to the government-managed Vote.gov website after being criticized for sharing election-related fake news. In particularly, Grok AI has wrongfully claimed that the election ballot deadlines have already passed in various states.

Many have since called out X to fix this issue with its AI chatbot. The company has assured that it has fixed the problem, and the state of Minnesota has expressed that it welcomes the correction made.

X's Grok AI Now Directs Users to the Official Vote.gov Website

X's Grok is now leading users to the official United States government website about THE election, Vote.gov, whenever users ask the chatbot election-related questions. This effort of the company to fix the problem has been recognized by the Minnesota Secretary of State in a recent press release and lauded the platform for combating misinformation.

The change was made after the secretaries of state from Minnesota, Michigan, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, and Washington came together to send X a letter about the misinformation from Grok. The secretaries went on to request the company to fix its issues so that it does not share the wrong information to users of the platform regarding the election.

Grok's Election Fake News About Ballot Deadlines

It was noted by Minnesota's Secretary of State Steve Simon that Grok AI shared inaccurate information with the public earlier this year. Despite the AI chatbot already recognizing its mistakes, it still failed to correct the information for ten days.

Specifically, Grok erroneously claimed that the ballot deadlines have already passed in as many as nine states. In reality, the deadline has yet to pass. It should be noted that incumbent US President Joe Biden has ended his election campaign to give way to the current vice president, Kamala Harris.

Harris is now the presidential bet of the Democratic party.

X's Grok and Its Misinformation Problem

Elon Musk's X launched Grok last year via the new subsidiary of his social media company, xAI. The chatbot is meant to compete with other chatbots from big tech companies, such as OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Bard (now Gemini).  It should be noted that the Grok is only available exclusively to X Premium subscribers.

However, it has become the center of controversy after multiple instances of spreading misinformation. The chatbot is notoriously known for sharing fake information to users. Particularly, Grok AI has previously shared wrong political content by sharing inaccurate news stories about recent events, particularly regarding Donald Trump's attempted assassination.

Earlier this year, Grok also made headlines for sharing fake news about NBA's Klay Thompson, saying he was "vandalizing" in Sacramento. The problem seems to persist for Grok even to this day given the misinformation it shares about the upcoming elections.
