There are now reports claiming that Ubisoft has given XDefiant an ultimatum to turn things around or risk being shut down by the end of Season 3. The recently released first-person shooter (FPS) game from the French gaming company is currently in the midst of Season 1, and it still has several months to improve its performance in the industry and appeal to gamers.
In its early stages, Ubisoft focused on developing a Call of Duty rival that takes on the best of its shooter games like the Tom Clancy franchise into an online multiplayer experience.
Ubisoft to Reportedly Shut Down XDefiant After Season 3
Insider Gaming reported that rumors about Ubisoft point to a possible shutdown of XDefiant with the company giving the team behind the action FPS mere months to improve on its numbers. The deal is that XDefiant needs to increase its player base and, potentially, its revenue for it to continue to be available for gamers to enjoy.
The game reportedly only has until Season 3 to do a full 180 and garner higher numbers for the company. According to Insider Gaming, failing to do so will mean that Ubisoft will pull out support for XDefiant and essentially make the game useless.

Call of Duty-Rival, XDefiant, Sees Low Player Numbers
Given this, XDefiant is facing a massive challenge to turn things around and increase its low player base and numbers, especially as it is known to have been created to be a rival for Activision Blizzard's Call of Duty.
It has also revealed that XDefiant is set to begin its Season 3 by November, and this is scheduled to last until early 2025 as this seasons has not yet been finished by the developers.
It remains to be seen if the game can progress to a Season 4.
Ubisoft and XDefiant
After successful releases of renowned Tom Clancy games like Rainbox Six Siege, Ghost Recon, The Division, and more, Ubisoft shifted its focus from action-shooter titles to a multiplayer experience, which it worked on for years. This was later revealed to be XDefiant, a new FPS game which has been given Ubisoft's Tom Clancy resources for its development.
However, the game failed to deliver on time as it was plagued with delays since last year. According to reports, it was because it failed quality checks. Ubisoft when on to open a beta for the game in order for gamers and selected testers to help in the development.
It was not until May 2024 when Ubisoft finally came around to releasing XDefiant,. At best, it was said to be a "mid" game, according to reviews.
The supposed Call of Duty rival has still not quite reached its level as XDefiant is struggling. It may not come as a surprise that Ubisoft has now given it a deadline to improve and turn things around.
