Apple iPhone SE 4 Will Reportedly Get OLED, Leaving Behind Japanese LCD Screens

The upcoming iPhone SE 4, which is speculated for release later this year or early in 2025, will reportedly make the switch to OLED displays. Apple previously maintained long partnerships with Japanese suppliers for the LCD screens used in iPhones, but these partnerships have ended ever since 2017's iPhone X.

The iPhone SE 4 is also speculated to have the body of either the iPhone 11 or iPhone 12, which means it will no longer feature the home button.

Early rumors of the iPhone SE 4 claimed that it will see massive upgrades soon, and among these is its use of an OLED screen to deliver its visual experience for users. This move was first seen when Apple last used LCDs for the iPhone 8 and OLEDs for its commemorative smartphone, the iPhone X, which were both launched in 2017.

Apple has reportedly tapped both BOE and LG to supply the iPhone SE 4 with its OLED display.

Leaving Japanese LCD Suppliers with iPhone SE 4 Upgrade

The recent report from Nikkei Asia also corroborates this OLED shift for the iPhone SE 4. According to the report, Apple is leaving its Japanese suppliers and their LCD technology behind as it discontinues previous-gen iPhone SEs.

Apple has previously partnered with Japan Display (JDI) and Sharp for these LCD screens. Now that the company has made the shift to OLED, it has favored South Korean and Chinese suppliers for the new displays.

Apple's iPhone SE 4 Speculations and Rumors

Apple's iPhone SE has been one of the most famous budget smartphones of all time. It's 2016 release featured the body of the iPhone 5, while the 2020 version took that of the iPhone 8. Both releases were warmly received by the public.

However, this was not the case for the model released in 2022. This then led to speculators that the iPhone SE 4 would be delayed.

Two years has since passed, and there is still no next-generation iPhone SEs available in the market. Despite this, many believe that the Apple is still in the midst of development. This is due to rumors that claimed that the next iPhone SE will feature a design shift from the iPhone 8 to using either the iPhone 11 or iPhone 12's body.

This means that the next iPhone SE may leave behind the home button with Touch ID design to instead have the notch with Face ID.

That specific rumor has continued to spread among as many Apple fans expressed their favor for an iPhone SE that features the latest A-series processor despite having the body of a older gen device. It has also been reported and speculated that apart from getting OLED screens, the iPhone SE 4 will also feature the Apple Intelligence, WiFi and Bluetooth upgrades, and more.
