The "Apple of China" has officially launched its latest flagship, the Xiaomi Mi4, a neat new smartphone with top-notch specs at a mid-range price point.
Xiaomi is rising fast and its products are becoming increasingly powerful and successful, and the latest flagship definitely doesn't disappoint. After selling 36.11 million phones in the first half of 2014 alone, the company is now launching its latest Xiaomi Mi4 powerhouse.
The new Xiaomi Mi4 comes with very attractive specifications able to challenge the latest flagships from bigwig companies, but it offers it all at a mid-range price point. Moreover, for the first time ever, the company has packed a bit of metal into its handset, as the Mi4 comes with a stainless steel frame.
In terms of specs, the Xiaomi Mi4 comes with a 5-inch full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.5GHz, 3GB of RAM, and 16GB or 32GB of internal storage capacity. Other specs include a 13-megapixel rear camera, an 8-megapixel front shooter, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, and a 3,080 mAh battery, among the highlights.
As expected, the Xiaomi Mi4 comes with a very affordable price tag for what it has to offer. The 16GB model costs CNY 1,999 (roughly $320), while the higher-capacity 32GB model costs CNY 2,499 (about $400). The prices are for the unlocked, contract-free device.
The smartphone will go up for pre-order in China next Tuesday, July 29, and will come with a range of back covers to allow for some customization. More specifically, Xiaomi will offer bamboo, wood, leather, cloth, or even stone textures for the Mi4's back cover. Furthermore, interested buyers will also be able to add an annual insurance for broken screen and accidental liquid damage for just CNY 99, i.e. about $16.
It remains unclear at this point just when or if Xiaomi plans to launch its latest Mi4 powerhouse in other parts of the world. The company made no mention of the smartphone's launch outside of China for now, but we'll make sure to keep you up to date as soon as we hear more. In the meantime, you can learn more about the new Xiaomi Mi4 smartphone from the company's website at this link. It's also worth pointing out that the smartphone is listed with a $459.99 price tag on Xiaomi World, but it appears as out of stock.
