Apple’s iWatch to debut on Sept. 9, but not hit retail until 2015?

The upcoming wearable gadget from Apple, unofficially dubbed the iWatch, may not be ready to hit commercial availability until 2015, according to a new report.

Apple may be gearing up to introduce its first wearable device alongside new iPhones next week, but it may be a good while before consumers actually get to wear it.

For those of you who are not familiar with the latest news, Apple has scheduled a launch event for Sept. 9, where it is widely expected to take the wraps off its next-generation iPhone 6. According to recent whispers, the much-rumored iWatch will also make a surprise appearance at the event, although it was previously rumored to make its official debut in October or later.

Nevertheless, a new report now claims that even if Apple introduces its new wearable next week, it will still take a good while before the device actually hits retail.

"So that new wearable device Apple is introducing on September 9? It's going to be a while before anyone is actually wearing it," Re/Code reports. "Sources in position to know tell me it won't arrive at market for a few months. 'It's not shipping anytime soon,' said one. So when does Apple plan to ship its eagerly anticipated wearable? That's not clear, but my understanding is that we're unlikely to see it at retail until after the holiday season - think early 2015."

In other words, the publication's sources were unable to provide an exact launch date for the device at this point, but chances are the gadget will not hit the market until next year even if it debuts next week.

This may come as disappointing news for many consumers eager to try out Apple's very first wearable device, but keep in mind that nothing is officially confirmed at this point.

As always in such cases, it is highly recommended to take this report with a hefty grain of salt, as it may or may not turn out to be accurate. If the company does indeed plan to introduce its wearable device next week alongside the new iPhone 6, we should hear more about it straight from the source soon enough. Companies don't always provide exact launch dates when announcing new products, but they usually provide at least a vague timeframe for availability. We'll stay on top of Apple's Sept. 9 event and keep you up to date as soon as more details surface, so stay tuned.
