Apple is rumored to be readying a 12-inch MacBook Air with a fanless design and a buttonless trackpad, and more information has now surfaced in this regards.
The MacBook Air family is expected to get bigger soon, with the addition of a slimmer, more compact, and notably upgraded model with a 12-inch display.
This 12-inch MacBook Air has surfaced in several reports so far, but nothing has materialized just yet. Nevertheless, the rumor mill keeps churning and a new report now bolsters claims that the upcoming device will boast a neat redesign, complete with a high-resolution Retina display.
The latest info now comes from Jack March of jackgmarch.com, a new website that comes to replace the publication A Tech Website.
"A source familiar with Apple's plans describes the 12 inch Macbook Air as having a noticeably thinner design, the source wouldn't give dimensions however noted that the thinner design may sacrifice the standard USB port and Apple will move to the reversible USB Type C with this product, it is assumed Apple will include an adapter in the box for backwards compatibility," March reports. "The source also believes that the MagSafe port as we know it has also been sacrificed and the new MacBook Air charges in a different way to what we've seen in current macs, however the source wasn't too sure whether this had been finalised or not."
The "noticeably thinner" design mentioned here refers to the fact that the purported 12-inch MacBook Air will allegedly not have any fans inside. Intel's Core M processor makes it possible to develop such laptop designs, while also delivering superior performance and power efficiency.
Moreover, the source further claimed that the display bezels will also be noticeably thinner, saying that the upcoming 12-inch MacBook will be "quite similar to the current MacBook Pro Retina lineup." The new device will reportedly have no space on either side of the keyboard, while the speaker will be relocated above the keyboard.
The report offers no additional details, and Apple has not made any official announcement in this regards just yet. This means that it all remains in the rumor state at this point, therefore it is highly recommended to take everything with a grain of salt until a formal unveiling.
