The new Sony Xperia Z3 Compact is officially ready to make its debut in Canada, launching exclusively on Bell for CAD$79.95 on contract.
Sony revolutionized the whole "Mini" smartphone trend with its Xperia Z1 Compact, as the device made very few compromises in terms of specifications. While other Mini versions of flagship smartphones came with watered-down specs compared to their big brothers, the Xperia Z1 Compact was a powerhouse on its own despite the smaller form factor.
An Xperia Z2 Compact was rumored and expected but never made it to market, and the Xperia Z3 Compact now comes as the direct successor to the Z1 Compact. With this new iteration, Sony has yet again raised the bar in terms of what to expect from a compact smartphone, as the Xperia Z3 Compact comes with an impressive set of specs and features on board.
The Xperia Z3 Compact continues to expand its commercial availability in more markets, and Bell Canada has now started offering the smartphone for CAD$79.95 when agreeing to sign a two-year service agreement. Interested buyers who would rather not commit to a lengthy carrier contract can also purchase the handset contract-free, but will have to shell out CAD$549.99 outright.
As a reminder, the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact comes with similar specifications as the flagship Xperia Z3, albeit with a few exceptions. The smaller handset sports a 4.6-inch display with an HD resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, packs a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor under the hood, and comes with 2GB of RAM for a fast and fluid performance.
Other specs of the Xperia Z3 Compact include 16GB of internal storage capacity, microSD support for additional memory, a 20.7-megapixel rear camera, a 2.2-megapixel front shooter, and a 2,600 mAh battery to keep things going. On the software side, the smartphone comes with Android 4.4.2 KitKat on board out of the box, but will receive an update to the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop in the future.
The Sony Xperia Z3 Compact will be available in Canada as a Bell exclusive, meaning that no other carrier will have it in its portfolio. Sony will also sell the handset itself, however, offering the device for $599 unlocked via its own retail store, in black, green, orange, and white color options.
