The highly-anticipated Google Nexus 6 smartphone from Motorola is ready to go up for pre-order in the UK on Nov. 18, Clove has confirmed.
The Nexus 6's release has been somewhat frustrating so far, as the device has not been as readily available as many hoped it would be. In the U.S., for instance, the handset went up for pre-order only to sell out in less than 24 hours. Google then promised to replenish stock every Wednesday and added some units on Nov. 5, but available inventory again vanished in no time.
When it comes to the smartphone's launch in the UK, meanwhile, Google has been alarmingly quiet. The company has set up a product page for the smartphone, offering spec details, but little in terms of availability. With no official news from the company regarding a release timeframe, rumors started to surface indicating a launch delay in the country.
Back in October, for instance, Paul O'Brien of MoDaCo said that the Nexus 6 won't hit the UK until December. A subsequent report from Dutch site Techtastic then claimed in early November that Nexus 6 pre-orders will be delayed until Nov. 18 in the UK and Europe.
It now seems that Techtastic was right about the pre-order date in the UK, while O'Brien was right about the actual commercial launch. Clove has just confirmed that it will start taking pre-orders for the Nexus 6 on Nov. 18. At the same time, Clove UK also hints at some inventory constraints for the new-generation Nexus smartphone.
"We can now confirm that Clove Technology will be stocking the 32GB Midnight Blue version of the Nexus 6 at £499 inc. VAT. Other colour/memory configurations are TBC at this time, with availability likely limited to the UK Play Store due to stock levels," Clove announced in a company blog post on Tuesday, Nov. 11.
"According to Google / Motorola we can expect to begin taking orders on the 18th of November in conjunction with the UK Play Store," adds Clove. "An exact shipping date is to be announced, although we expect early December."
As a reminder, the Google Nexus 6 is the first smartphone to launch with the very latest Android 5.0 Lollipop, and it comes with top-notch specs and features all around. The smartphone sports a 5.96-inch QHD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels and packs a 2.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor under the hood, paired with Adreno 420 graphics and a hefty 3GB of RAM. Other specs include a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front shooter, and a large 3,220 mAh battery to keep things up and running. The handset comes in 32GB and 64GB models, but Clove will only be offering the 32GB Midnight Blue version.
Nov. 18 is still one week away, but interested buyers can now register their interest for the Nexus 6 on Clove UK and receive more information closer to launch.
