Amazon Prime Now same-day delivery service debuts, promises one-hour deliveries of ‘daily essentials’

Amazon has just launched a new service called Prime Now, which promises to deliver items the same day, as soon as one hour of placing the order.

Same-day deliveries are a huge bonus in today's busy world, when most people struggle to find time to fit as many chores as possible in their dayly routine. With the holidays just around the corner, it's now more important than ever to handle everything in a time-efficient manner and many people find themselves busier than ever in this time of year.

Amazon is now joining the same-day delivery party with its new Prime Now service, which aims to handle purchases of "essential daily items." The company is starting small, however, as the service is available only in "select areas" of Manhattan for now.

With the new Amazon Prime Now service, customers can order essential daily items such as shampoo, toys, books, cereals, detergent, and other such products, and have them delivered within an hour.

Existing Amazon Prime members can place orders through a Prime Now app, available for both iOS and Android devices. The apps will also notify users as soon as new areas open up for the service. Customers who want to receive their orders within the hour will have to shell out $7.99 for the express service, while those who can wait two hours will be able to enjoy free delivery.

The launch of such a service from Amazon's part comes as no big surprise, as other companies such as Uber, eBay, or startups such as Postmates have already been offering fast delivery services to U.S. customers, albeit in a limited fashion.

As previously mentioned, the Prime Now service is currently available only in some select areas of Manhattan, but if everything goes right Amazon will most likely do its best to expand the coverage of its speedy delivery service.

Until then, the new Amazon Prime Now is a welcome addition, and its arrival in such a busy time of the year will only boost its popularity. If you'd like to give it a shot, head over to the iTunes store here to download the app for iOS, or to Google Play at this link to get the Android version of the app. For more information, check out the Amazon Prime Now website.
