Huawei has officially unveiled its latest phablet, the Ascend GX1 that boasts a large 6-inch display with an impressive screen-to-body ratio.
The company started to fight off screen bezels with its Ascent P7, which was largely met with positive reviews. Huawei is now taking things to the next level with its new Ascend GX1, which sports even thinner bezels around its display.
The super-sized Ascend GX1 Android handset was first spotted last week and was expected to debut soon, and it now looks like those leaks were accurate. The phablet made its official debut in China, where it is available for purchase for CNY 1,590 (roughly $255). Huawei is expected to release its new Ascend GX1 in other markets as well in the near future, but the company has yet to offer more information in this regards.
When it comes to specifications, the new Huawei Ascend GX1 offers quite a lot for its price tag. First of all, the most obvious quality you'll see is the impressive 80.5% screen-to-body ratio, which is reminiscent of the Ascent Mate 7. Under the hood, the Ascend GX1 packs a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor clocked at 1.2GHz, paired with 1GB of RAM. Other specs include 8GB of internal storage capacity, microSD support for additional memory, an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, and a 2-megapixel front shooter. The phablet further supports 4G LTE, NFC, and dual-SIM.
In terms of weight and dimensions, the Huawei Ascend GX1 measures 161 x 84.5 x 9.2 mm and weighs in at 173 grams. A large 3,500 mAhh battery keeps things up and running, while Android 4.4 KitKat rocks the software side.
In other words, the new Huawei Ascend GX1 comes with impressive specifications on board considering its price tag, and is expected to be a strong contender in the mid-range segment of the smartphone market.
For the time being, Huawei is selling the Ascend GX1 only in China, via its own online store, and it seems that only a white color option is available at this point. It remains to be seen when the phablet will hit other markets as well, but we'll keep you up to date as soon as more information becomes available.
