Samsung will reportedly unveil a top-notch smartphone with a three-sided display alongside a "standard" Galaxy S6 at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015.
For a good while now, Samsung has been rumored to have two new Galaxy S6 versions in tow. In addition to the regular Galaxy S6 flagship smartphone, the company is also expected to unveil a curved-display variant, unofficially dubbed the Galaxy S6 Edge.
Both of these new smartphones are expected to come with top-notch specs and features all around, and make their official debut at the company's Galaxy Unpacked event on March 1 in Barcelona, Spain.
Amid a slew of exciting rumors and leaks, Bloomberg is now bolstering claims of an intriguing Galaxy S6 Edge curved-display smartphone.
"Samsung Electronics Co. plans to release two new versions of its top-tier Galaxy smartphone next month, including a model with a display covering three sides, according to people with direct knowledge of the matter," Bloomberg reports.
At the same time, the report also bolsters rumors that Samsung has ditched Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 810 chip in favor of an in-house processor for its next-generation flagships. Moreover, the smartphones should finally rock a full-metal design.
"Both phones will have all-metal bodies and use Samsung's most advanced processor chips, the people said, asking not to be identified because the details haven't been released. The second model to be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in Spain will only have a front-facing display, the people said. Both phones will have 5.1-inch screens, one of the people said."
As a reminder, last year Samsung introduced a Galaxy Note Edge variant alongside its flagship Galaxy Note 4 phablet. The Galaxy Note Edge came with a curved display stretching onto the right side, delivering various notifications and information.
"Taking the Galaxy Note experience to the next level, the Note Edge provides users with a new way to access information, engage with their mobile device, and express their personality and tastes. The Galaxy Note Edge's unique curved Edge screen provides quick access to frequently used apps, alerts and device functionality - even when the cover is closed - all with the swipe of a thumb. Users can also receive notifications directly on the Edge Screen while watching videos without disturbing their viewing," Samsung boasted when announcing its Galaxy Note Edge back in September 2014.
The Galaxy S6 Edge, meanwhile, is expected to deliver a similar functionality with its Edge screen, but on both sides. While the Galaxy Note Edge only wrapped the display around the right side to deliver that functionality, the Galaxy S6 Edge will reportedly have a dual-edge screen curving on both sides, thus making up a three-sided display.
Nevertheless, it all remains in the rumor state until Samsung makes an official announcement, so make sure to take everything with a grain of salt. The company's special Galaxy Unpacked 2015 event (see image above) is only a few short weeks away, and we'll soon get the official scoop straight from the source.
