Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge AnTuTu benchmark result reveals powerful specs, impressive performance

The purported Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge has surfaced in an intriguing benchmark result that, if accurate, confirms top-notch specs for the device.

For a good while, all sorts of leaks and reports have hinted at a curved-display variant of the Galaxy S6, which would presumably launch as the Galaxy S Edge or S6 Edge. No official information is available in this regards for now, but an intriguing new benchmark result now bolsters expectations that the device will pack powerful hardware.

As spotted by MyDrivers, the AnTuTu benchmark database lists a device with model number SM-G925W8, listed as "Samsung Galaxy S6 New model exposure," and it's believed to be the highly-anticipated Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. The listing bolsters previously leaked specs, including the 5.1-inch QHD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, the Exynos 7420 processor, 3GB of RAM, and 20-megapixel rear camera. On the software side, the handset runs Android 5.0.2 Lollipop.

At the same time, the processor listed here confirms the rumor that Samsung has ditched Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 810 chip in favor of an in-house 14-nm Exynos one.

The benchmark score, if accurate, is quite impressive, revealing great performance for the purported device. The overall score is 60,978 and the 3D graphics performance apparently sees the greatest improvements compared to the Exynos 5433 processor. The Exynos 7420 also appears roughly 10,000 points higher than NVIDIA's Tegra K1, as well as other competitors, which suggest the upcoming smartphone will be a real powerhouse in terms of performance.

Previous rumors, meanwhile, indicated that the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge will have its display curved on both sides, which would allow for easier operation with either hand. The Galaxy Note Edge, for instance, curves only on the right side, which may be cumbersome for some left-handed users. A dual-edge screen would eliminate such inconveniences, and should deliver relevant information on both sides of the display.

At the same time, it's worth pointing out that nothing is official at this point regarding the upcoming Galaxy S6 and its curved-display counterpart, the Galaxy S6 Edge. Other than the Edge screen, the two smartphones should share the same specifications. The two handsets are expected to make their debut at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015, as Samsung has scheduled a special Galaxy Unpacked event for March 1. It all remains in the rumor state until then, so make sure to take all leaks and reports with a hefty grain of salt. This benchmark does look intriguing, but benchmarks have proved to be misleading before.
