12-inch MacBook Air to debut alongside Apple Watch at March 9 Spring Forward event?

The much-rumored 12-inch Retina MacBook Air could make its debut next week at the Apple Watch event, if a new report turns out to be accurate.

Apple has planned a special Spring Forward event for next Monday, March 9, but has not disclosed just what it plans to announce at the event. The general expectation is that the Apple Watch will be the star of the show, but rumors also hinted at a potential MacBook unveiling.

The latest news from The Michael Report now claims that Apple could unveil its much-rumored 12-inch MacBook Air on March 9. The device is rumored to be ultra-thin and sport a major redesign. The Michael Report claims to have received the information from sources within Apple.

"Many are expecting Apple talk more about the Apple Watch. However, sources familiar with the matter within Apple have exclusively told The Michael Report that Apple plans to unveil the long-awaited Retina MacBook Air at the same event. The Michael Report has independently verified this information to be highly credible," notes the publication.

Previous rumors, meanwhile, have claimed that Apple's new MacBook Air should arrive in Spring, which would fall in line with a March 9 unveiling. Quanta Computer has reportedly started mass producing the device back in January, which would allow for a launch in March or April. Apple could also introduce refreshed models of the current 11- and 13-inch MacBook Air at the event.

The 12-inch MacBook Air is expected to sport an impressively thin profile and a redesigned chassis, ditching the fan and the physical trackpad buttons. The device could also pack Intel Core M Broadwell under the hood. The 12-inch MacBook Air is further rumored to feature smaller bezels similar to the MacBook Pro.

With no confirmed news from Apple, however, it all remains in the rumor state at this point. All information regarding the purported 12-inch MacBook Pro is based solely on leaks and speculation, so it is highly advisable to take everything with a grain of salt for now. Apple's Spring Forward event is just around the corner and we'll make sure to keep you up to date as soon as it becomes official, so stay tuned.
