ASUS ROG G501 gaming laptop debuts with 15.6-inch UHD display, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M

ASUS has a new gaming laptop powerhouse in store, as the company just announced an ultra-slim ROG G501 with NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 960M.

Gaming laptops are increasingly gaining momentum, and things are now heating up even further on this market with the latest unveilings.

NVIDIA just announced its new GeForce GTX 960M and 950M, and a number of companies have already unveiled their latest and greatest powerhouses. Following exciting announcements from Alienware, Razer, Acer, and MSI, ASUS has now unveiled a sleek and impressive ROG G501 gaming laptop.

According to ASUS, its new ROG G501 is among the thinnest gaming laptops in its class, rocking an ultra-slim profile of just 0.81 inches. In terms of weight, the device tips the scales at 4.54 pounds at its lightest, albeit the company will also offer a touchscreen version that will be somewhat heavier.

The ASUS ROG G501 features a 15.6-inch display with an UHD resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels, which should deliver a sharp and vivid visual experience.

Under the hood, the laptop packs an Intel Core i7-4720 processor clocked at 2.6GHz (3.6GHz Turbo), housed inside a mobile Intel HM87 chipset. Other specs include 16GB of DDR3 memory, while storage comes in the form of a 512GB PCIe x 4 SSD. When it comes to graphics, the new ASUS G501 boasts the new NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M, which rocks 4GB of GDDR5 VRAM.

The new ASUS ROG G501 further features a 1.2-megapixel front camera, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.0, three USB 3.0 ports, one HDMI port, an SD/SDXC card reader, a Thunderbolt port, a headphone out, and a mic in jack.

According to ASUS, its new gaming laptop also comes with Hyper Cool technology, which uses the dual fans and copper heat-pipes to cool both the CPU and the GPU, without making too much noise.

When it comes to pricing and availability, the new ASUS G501 will come with a price tag of roughly $1,999, and should start shipping sometime next month in the U.S.
