The first shipments of the new HTC One M9 flagship have apparently been delayed, and the cause is reportedly related to software.
HTC unveiled its latest flagship smartphone early this month at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015, introducing the highly-anticipated HTC One M9. The company offered no specific launch date at that point, but last week it officially announced the first release date.
More specifically, the HTC One M9 was all set to make its commercial debut in the company's home country of Taiwan as soon as this week kicked off. Customers in Taiwan who have pre-ordered the smartphone were told to expect it by March 16, but it now seems that the first shipments may suffer some delays.
According to new reports, the main reason behind this unexpected delay is related to a software upgrade. HTC apparently wants to ship the One M9 with the very latest version of Android on board, so the wait may be worth it.
"Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC Corp. has delayed sales of its flagship One M9 device in its home market that was originally scheduled to begin Monday due to software upgrade," Focus Taiwan reports.
"HTC confirmed the delay in an e-mail reply to CNA, saying that it is working on providing 'the latest version of software' for the One M9 and will make the phone available in Taiwan 'as soon as possible.'"
The company has yet to announce a new launch date for the HTC One M9, but is expected to provide more information shortly. The delay should not last for more than a couple of weeks tops, but no specific date is available at this point. The latest software update likely refers to the newly-released Android 5.1 Lollipop, which brings several improvements and a few new features to the table.
HTC had also announced a higher-capacity One M9 with 64GB of internal storage capacity on board, which was also supposed to launch on March 16. Speculation now indicates that the 64GB model might arrive later on.
With the handset's delayed launch in HTC's home country of Taiwan, it remains to be seen when the new HTC One M9 will make its way to other regions as well. The smartphone may hit the U.S. sometime toward the end of this month or early next month, but it's yet to be confirmed. We'll keep you up to date as soon as more information comes to light, so make sure to check back.
