Acer Iconia One 8, Iconia Tab 10 budget tablets officially debut

Acer officially unveiled a number of new devices, including two new budget-friendly tablets, introducing the attractively-priced Iconia One 8 and Iconia Tab 10.

The two slates are quite different from one another, but they do have one important thing in common - low price tags.

Acer Iconia One 8

The 8-inch Acer Iconia One features an IPS display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, Zero Air Gap and Acer's new Precision Plus technology, which should make the touchscreen notably more accurate. The company will offer an optional Acer Accurate Stylus as well, but mentions that users also be able to write or sketch with a "fine tip 2mm pencil."

Under the hood, the Acer Iconia One 8 packs a quad-core Intel Atom processor and 16GB or 32GB of internal storage, while the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop OS rocks the software side. The slate further features a 5-megapixel wide-angle rear camera and a 0.3-megapixel front shooter. According to the company, the tablet offers up to 8.5 hours of battery life. The Acer Iconia One 8 stats at $149 and will hit U.S. stores in May, followed by the Middle East, Europe, and Africa in April.

Acer Iconia Tab 10 for Education

The new 10-inch Iconia tablet from Acer features a 1,920 x 1,200 pixel resolution, Gorilla Glass 4.0 protection, and the same Precision Plus technology as the Iconia One 8.

The Acer Iconia Tab 10 further sports a quad-core Intel Atom processor under the hood, 2GB of RAM, 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB of internal storage capacity, microSD support for additional memory of up to 64GB, NFC, and Bluetooth 4.0. The tablet should last for up to 7.5 hours on a single charge, according to Acer.

The company teamed up with Google to provide "accessible technology and richer resources to classrooms" with its Iconia Tab 10 for Education.

"As technology has been incorporated more broadly across K-12 classrooms, schools want to deploy devices that are easy to use, durable, manageable, and budget-friendly, and can be used as the foundation for a lifetime of learning for students," said Maverick Shih, president of Acer BYOC and Tablet Business Group. "The Acer Iconia Tab 10 for Education is an excellent choice for districts rolling out new technology throughout their entire school for 1:1 initiatives or even for a single mobile lab. The durable design, full HD display and interactive features will help make learning more creative and collaborative."

When it comes to pricing and availability, the Acer Iconia Tab 10 will launch at $299, hitting North America, the Middle East, Europe, and Africa in May. The company has yet to announce availability details for other global markets, but should provide additional information shortly.
