Razer's much-touted Android TV is now officially available for pre-order, complete with a bundle that includes both the Forge TV and the Serval controller.
The Razer Forge TV has stirred plenty of interest since its debut, and fans were eagerly waiting for the device to finally become available for purchase. The gadget is expected to come later this month, but interested customers can now place a pre-order. It's worth pointing out that the Forge TV and the Sevral controller are available separately, but it would be more advantageous to purchase them in the bundle.
As a reminder, the Razer Forge TV packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor under the hood, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage capacity. The gadget hooks up to a TV via HDMI, and allows for USB 3.0, Wi-Fi, or Ethernet connections. The relatively low amount of RAM may prove insufficient for more intensive games, but otherwise the Forge TV should provide a decent performance. On the software side, the box runs Android 5.0 Lollipop.
Keep in mind, however, that the Forge TV does not come with any input device of its own, which means that users will need to connect to it either via a controller, or using a smartphone app. The Sevral controller will serve for gaming purposes, as well as navigation through the Android TV interface.
When it comes to pricing and availability, the Razer Forge TV sports a $99.99 price tag and is set to start shipping by April 29. The Razer Sevral controller, meanwhile, comes with a price tag of $79.99 and is scheduled to start shipping by May 5. Lastly, the aforementioned bundle that includes both the Forge TV and the Sevral controller costs $149.99. This means that you'll be able to save $30 if you go for the bundle instead of purchasing the two devices separately. The Forge TV Bundle will also start shipping by May 5.
With the Forge TV now up for pre-order, Razer has beat the latest NVIDIA SHIELD to the punch. Nevertheless, things should heat up significantly when NVIDIA's device does make its commercial debut, and it remains to be seen which one will be more popular among consumers.
