Microsoft apparently has a Lumia 830 successor in the works, as the company is reportedly gearing up to launch a Lumia 840 in the coming months.
Previously we've heard that Microsoft plans to focus on affordable devices at least in the first half of this year, and the company has indeed unveiled several budget-friendly handsets recently. The Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL made their debut back in March, followed by the Lumia 430, as well as the Lumia 540 dual-SIM earlier this month.
We also heard that Microsoft has at least one high-end flagship in the pipeline, as Qualcomm revealed back in February that a Snapdragon 810-powered Lumia would arrive later this year. Recent rumors indicated that Microsoft's 2015 flagship would arrive as the Lumia 940, accompanied by a Lumia 940 XL variant.
A new report, however, now offers some details on the Lumia 830 successor, revealing that a mid-range Lumia 840 may arrive sooner than expected.
According to an intriguing Nokia Power User (NPU) report, Microsoft has discontinued the Lumia 830 smartphone in India already. This means that the handset is still available for purchase for now, but once existing stock sells out it will not be replenished.
The Lumia 840 will reportedly arrive in the coming months to replace the Lumia 830 (pictured above). NPU further notes that the Lumia 840 will come with Windows Phone 8.1 GDR2 on board, not the latest Windows 10 that is expected to power the Lumia 940.
The upcoming Lumia 830 successor is further expected to come with a display of around 5 inches like its predecessor, but sport notable improvements in other aspects. Both the front and the rear camera will reportedly get upgrades, as the smartphone will apparently pack a 13- or 14-megapixel PureView rear camera and a 5-megapixel front shooter. The Lumia 840 is also rumored to come with a more powerful processor, and may also feature dual-SIM support.
"So, we have some info about one such mid-ranger in works, that may pack Dual-Sim support, 13-14 MP rear camera (PureView), 5 MP FFC, better processor and may sport similar or slightly modified design to Lumia 830. While it is not sure what the name may be, we may call it Lumia 840 for our convenience. This device may have a screen size around 5-inch," NPU cites an anonymous source familiar with the matter.
It remains unclear at this point just when exactly the purported Lumia 840 will make its official debut or what specifications it will pack when it does, but we'll keep you up to date as soon as more information comes to light. In the meantime, take all leaks and rumors with a grain of salt.
