Samsung Galaxy S6 Active hype: New press renders give a better look

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Active is the star of a new leak, as a new press render has now surfaced online.

Samsung has been offering more rugged versions of its flagships ever since 2013, when it introduced the Galaxy S4 Active. The company launched a Galaxy S5 Active last year, and now it is expected to unveil a Galaxy S6 Active soon enough.

Rumors of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active have been intensifying as of late, and the handset was also spotted at the FCC, suggesting an imminent debut in the U.S. After seeing the first leaked image of the purported smartphone a couple of days ago, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active has now leaked again.

Famous tipster Evan Blas, more commonly known as @evleaks, confirmed the previously leaked image from GSMArena and offered a closer look at the device, posting a higher-quality image.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Active is expected to boast extra protection with some special casing over the flagship Galaxy S6. This protection will make the rugged handset waterproof, dust-proof, and shock-proof, in order to guarantee extra durability.

When it comes to hardware specifications, the Galaxy S6 Active is expected to borrow several specs from the flagship Galaxy S6, including the 5.1-inch display with a QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Active is further rumored to pack an octa-core Samsung Exynos 7420 processor under the hood, along with 3GB of RAM for a fast and smooth performance. The handset will reportedly come in a range of storage options, and some previous rumors indicated that it may also have microSD support for additional memory, unlike the flagship Galaxy S6.

Other rumored specs of the Galaxy S6 Active include the same cameras found on the standard Galaxy S6, meaning a 16-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front shooter. The handset is also expected to feature a large 3,500 mAh battery to keep things up and running.

On the software side, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S6 Active should come with Android Lollipop on board out of the box, with Samsung's own TouchWiz UI on top. The smartphone is expected to make its debut soon in the U.S., joining AT&T's lineup.

No specific launch date is available at this point, but additional information should come to light shortly. We'll keep you up to date as soon as we learn more, but take all rumors and leaks with a grain of salt for now.
